September 28 (Jin Shi Data) — A senior official from the Department of American and Oceanian Affairs under China's Ministry of Commerce provided an interpretation of the outcomes of the eighth round of China-U.S. economic and trade consultations.
In May of this year, the economic and trade teams of China and the United States reached a series of positive consensus aimed at resolving certain non-tariff barriers and market access issues concerning agricultural products between the two sides. In principle, both parties agreed to include the relevant products under the "300 billion vs. 300 billion" reciprocal tariff reduction framework.
Subsequently, the two sides' economic and trade teams engaged in professional and pragmatic consultations focused on agricultural issues. Against this backdrop, both parties agreed to establish an Agricultural Working Group under the China-U.S. Trade Council. The working group will be jointly led by China's Ministry of Commerce and the Office of the United States Trade Representative, with participation from relevant regulatory agencies of both countries.
The working group will discuss issues related to bilateral market access for agricultural products and regulatory matters. Both sides have agreed to hold the first meeting of the working group by the end of 2026. Through the working group meetings, China will continue to urge the United States to address China's concerns in the agricultural sector.
