According to Omdia data reported by Zhitong Finance, China's PC shipments rose 11% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026 to 11.4 million units, driven by a 42% surge in desktop shipments that offset a 2% decline in notebooks. Tablet shipments fell 13% to 8 million units amid weak demand and supply challenges. The strong Q2 performance was attributed to robust commercial demand, which grew 29% thanks to equipment upgrades linked to China's Xinchuang (IT application innovation) initiative. Consumer demand fell 2%. Omdia senior analyst Emma Xu noted that government subsidies are fading and prices are rising, weakening consumer demand, though inventory stocking by vendors and channels helped limit the Q2 decline. For full-year 2026, Omdia forecasts China PC shipments will fall 6% to 39.7 million units, with consumer PCs down 10% and commercial growth partially offsetting the decline. Tablet shipments are expected to drop 10% to 32.5 million units as the market matures and shifts from first-time purchases to replacements.

Market Drivers and Segment Performance
The PC market outperformed expectations in Q2 2026, driven largely by strong commercial demand. The commercial segment saw shipments grow 29%, fueled by a surge in device replacement demand related to China's Xinchuang (Information Technology Application Innovation) initiative, which promotes the adoption of domestically developed IT technologies.
In contrast, the consumer market remained relatively weak, with shipments declining 2%.
Analyst Commentary
Emma Xu, Senior Analyst at Omdia, commented:
"Commercial PC demand in mainland China, particularly from large enterprises and government institutions, continues to support overall market growth. Consumer market demand has weakened this year as the impact of government subsidies fades and prices rise. However, inventory stocking by vendors and channels—aimed at locking in lower prices and mitigating the risk of further cost increases—helped prevent a sharper decline in the consumer segment during the second quarter."
Xu added:
"After several years of growth, the tablet market is facing greater challenges. Consumer demand is weakening, and vendors have increasingly limited room to support sales through promotional activities. As market penetration reaches historic highs, demand is shifting from first-time purchases to replacements, signaling that the tablet market is entering a more mature and stable phase of development."
Outlook
Omdia expects mainland China's PC market to decline 6% year-over-year in 2026, with consumer PC shipments projected to fall 10%. Growth in the commercial market is expected to partially offset the overall market weakness. Meanwhile, the tablet market is forecast to decline 10% in 2026, weighed down by weak demand and ongoing supply constraints.
