BYD is conducting a massive recruitment drive at its Xi'an production base, aiming to hire nearly 10,000 workers, primarily for frontline technical positions such as vehicle assembly, welding, painting, and electrical work. The recruitment, announced via the Xi'an Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, covers five factory zones and multiple business units, including the 11th Division (vehicle production) and the 2nd Division (battery manufacturing). New hires in welding and assembly plants are eligible for a 6,000 yuan sign-on bonus, paid in two installments after the first and second months. The company cited capacity expansion following production line adjustments as the reason for the urgent need. The Xi'an base, BYD's largest single vehicle production site, has a planned annual capacity of 1.5 million vehicles. The recruitment comes amid a 47.7% drop in Shaanxi's auto output in the first half of 2026, attributed to BYD's line switch and shifting production to other bases. BYD also recently acquired land in Xi'an for battery production. Separately, BYD has reportedly raised its 2025 overseas sales target to 2 million units, though unconfirmed, and is expanding factories in Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Brazil.

Recruitment Details
According to the recruitment announcement, the hiring at BYD’s Xi’an base is primarily focused on frontline technical workers, including:
- Vehicle assembly workers
- Automotive welding workers
- Automotive painting workers
- Welders
- Electricians
The positions span several business divisions, including the Second, Eleventh, and Fourteenth divisions. Work locations are spread across five factory areas in Xi’an: Gaoxin, Xixian, Jixian, Caotang, and Pangguan. The total recruitment scale exceeds 8,000 people, with maximum monthly salaries reaching 10,000 yuan.
On September 22, a recruitment representative from BYD’s Xi’an Eleventh Division told National Business Daily that the division is primarily responsible for manufacturing. Following earlier production line adjustments, the division is now expanding capacity and is “very short of staff.”
“The 6,000 yuan signing bonus is only available to new workers in the welding and final assembly plants,” the representative said. Workers in these two plants will receive half of the bonus after completing their first full month, and the other half in the second month.
“The total number of recruits this time will be close to 10,000,” said a recruitment representative from BYD’s Xi’an Second Division. The representative noted that the bonus does not apply to the Second Division, and the recruitment has no set end date—it will continue until all positions are filled. Currently, female workers have already been fully recruited; only male workers are being sought.
BYD’s Land Acquisitions in Xi’an
As the birthplace of BYD’s automotive business, Xi’an is not only BYD’s largest single automotive production base nationwide but also an important power battery manufacturing base.

The announcement shows that the Eleventh Division is responsible for the stamping, welding, painting, and final assembly processes for new energy vehicle models, as well as the production of automotive trim and body structural parts. It currently produces models from the Dynasty series, Ocean series, and brands such as Yangwang, Fangchengbao, and Denza. The Second Division holds core technology across the entire battery industry chain, with products covering 3C consumer batteries, power batteries, energy storage products, and automotive and battery-related components such as BMS, relays, capacitors, and fuses.
“Apart from the Shenzhen headquarters, Xi’an is the city with the broadest business layout and the most areas of cooperation for BYD,” BYD Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu has publicly stated.
Notably, just over a year ago, BYD acquired land in Xi’an in two separate transactions. In January 2025, BYD’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Xixian New Area BYD Industrial Co., Ltd. (Xixian New Area BYD), won the right to use a construction land parcel of approximately 883,000 square meters (about 1,323.96 mu) for 398 million yuan.

On March 28, 2025, Xixian New Area BYD again won the right to use a state-owned construction land parcel in the Zhouling area of Qinchuan New City, Xixian New Area, for approximately 375 million yuan. The transfer announcement indicates that the land area is about 807,000 square meters (approximately 1,210.5 mu), including land previously used by Baoneng Auto. However, the parcel acquired by Xixian New Area BYD does not include Baoneng Auto’s existing factory buildings. The land is designated for industrial use, not for vehicle manufacturing, but specifically for the production and expansion of power batteries.
Public information shows that after multiple expansion phases, the Xi’an base now includes the Gaoxin, Caotang, Jixian, and Xixian industrial parks, with a planned annual production capacity of 1.5 million vehicles.
Capacity Expansion and Labor Shortage
According to sources, BYD’s large-scale recruitment is primarily due to the company’s production line adjustments in the first half of the year, which have now shifted to rapid capacity ramp-up. National Business Daily repeatedly sought confirmation from BYD on this matter but received no response by the time of publication.
However, the recruitment representative from BYD’s Xi’an Eleventh Division told reporters that due to production line adjustments, the Xi’an factory is expanding capacity and is very short of staff. “Taking welding as an example, after workers enter the welding plant, their monthly salary can reach up to 10,000 yuan,” the representative said.
Data from the Shaanxi Provincial Automotive Industry Association shows that in 2025, Shaanxi’s automobile production reached 1.725 million vehicles, ranking eighth nationally. Of this, BYD Xi’an produced 1.003 million vehicles, contributing nearly 60% of the total. In the first half of 2026, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, Shaanxi’s automobile production fell to 493,000 vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 47.7%, dropping its national ranking from eighth to fourteenth.
Li Dong, President of the Xi’an Tongji Regional Planning Research Institute, analyzed that the main reasons for the sharp decline in Shaanxi’s automobile production include production line switching at BYD’s Caotang base, with old models gradually being phased out and new models yet to reach full production capacity. Additionally, BYD has diverted some of its best-selling models to its Zhengzhou and overseas bases, reducing local production in Xi’an.
In fact, BYD’s overall market performance fluctuated in the first five months of this year. Wang Chuanfu explained that this is mainly related to insufficient production capacity of the second-generation blade battery, which is still ramping up. “This year’s sales depend on battery production,” Wang said. He stated that BYD will strive to increase second-generation blade battery production capacity, expecting to achieve an incremental increase of 20,000 to 30,000 vehicles per month.

Official data shows that from January to August, BYD sold approximately 2.668 million new energy vehicles cumulatively. Of these, overseas exports contributed over 43%, reaching approximately 1.158 million vehicles.
On June 9, at BYD’s 2025 annual general meeting, Wang Chuanfu stated that production of the second-generation blade battery will further increase in 2027, driving sustained sales growth and enabling simultaneous efforts in both domestic and international markets. “BYD’s original target of 1.5 million overseas vehicle sales this year is expected to be exceeded,” Wang said.
Recently, there have been reports that BYD has raised its full-year overseas sales target to 2 million vehicles and plans to build three vehicle factories and one battery factory in Europe. However, this information has not been officially confirmed.
On September 10, BYD stated in its investor relations activity record that localized production capacity deployment is progressing steadily according to plan. Factories in Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Brazil have been completed and put into operation, while factories under construction are accelerating. At the same time, BYD is conducting preliminary assessments of some potential overseas regions. “Localized manufacturing is an important part of the company’s globalization strategy. The progress of related capacity construction will be affected by multiple factors, including local policies, supply chain support, and the pace of engineering construction,” BYD said.
