WASHINGTON, Sept. 11 (Reuters) — U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that he would not object to Chinese automakers building factories and manufacturing vehicles in the United States, despite widespread opposition from U.S. lawmakers and car companies.
"If China wants to come in and build cars here, I have no problem with that," Trump said in an interview on Fox News' "The Ingraham Angle."
"Japan does it too, but they hire our people. The key is hiring our people," he said.
He added that he did not want Chinese automakers to build plants in Mexico and ship cars into the United States.
