U.S. Vice President JD Vance announced on September 3, 2026, that the United States is investigating an airstrike that Iran says struck a wedding party in Iran. During a White House press briefing, Vance stated, 'We're investigating it because obviously we care. We want to know.' He contrasted U.S. military accountability with Iran's, saying when the U.S. makes mistakes, it learns from them. Iranian officials reported that four people died and nearly 70 were wounded when a strike hit a home during a wedding. Iranian state TV later reported a fifth death, a 22-year-old woman. The U.S. military acknowledged the reports but stated it 'never targets civilians.' The incident raises tensions between the two countries, with the U.S. probing the claims while maintaining its forces do not intentionally harm non-combatants.

“If we do make mistakes, again, this is a big difference between us and Iran, when our military makes mistakes, they learn from them to try to get better from them,” Vance added.
