Ukraine deploys new jet-powered Alexa Spatium interceptor drone against Russian UAVs

Ukraine has introduced a new jet-powered interceptor drone, the Alexa Spatium, to bolster its air defense against Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Developed by a Ukrainian engineering team, the system is now operational with the country's Defence Forces. Announced by the Ministry of Defence on 21 August 2026, the Alexa Spatium is primarily designed to counter Russian kamikaze drones such as the Geran-3, Geran-4, Geran-5, and Shahed-131, but can also target reconnaissance drones, helicopters, and other aerial threats. Powered by a turbojet engine, it features TV and infrared targeting, high maneuverability, and a reusable design that allows it to return to base if a mission is aborted. The drone measures 1.5 by 1.7 meters, launches from a mobile catapult within minutes, and can carry high-explosive fragmentation, shaped-charge, or thermobaric warheads. Its modular design enables rapid deployment, including transport in a standard pickup truck. This marks the latest step in Ukraine's efforts to enhance domestic UAV manufacturing, with 413 UAVs authorized for military use since early 2026, most produced domestically.
