PoliticsOntario Premier Doug Ford responded defiantly to President Trump's threat to impose 50% tariffs on Canadian cars, trucks, auto parts, and steel by January 1, 2027. In a radio interview, Ford told Trump he could 'kiss my ass' and suggested Canada retaliate by tripling prices on oil, gas, potash, uranium, and rare earth metals exported to the U.S. Ford, a Conservative, invoked Ronald Reagan to call Trump a 'bully' who would face a 'rude awakening.' The escalation follows Canada's weekend halt of tariff negotiations after Trump made last-minute demands, including changes to Quebec's French-language protections. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also signaled the country would not back down in the trade war.
