TechChinese automaker Xpeng announced on August 24, 2026, that its robotics unit raised over $900 million in its first funding round, setting a record for single private financing in China's embodied AI sector. The round was led by IDG Capital with strategic backing from Tencent and Alibaba, valuing the unit at over $6.3 billion. Funds will be used for robotics hardware and software development, AI model training, data collection, mass-production facilities, and global expansion. Xpeng plans to begin mass production of its humanoid robot, Xpeng IRON, by year-end, with initial deployments at retail stores and industrial campuses, and commercial sales in China and overseas starting in 2027. CEO He Xiaopeng will personally lead the robotics business as the company pushes toward mass production, leveraging expertise from its electric vehicle operations.
