TechA Texas woman, Lindsey Austen, filmed an Amazon Prime Air delivery drone dropping her package into her swimming pool, capturing the moment on video as she ran outside after hearing the drone buzzing. The incident went viral the same week Amazon announced plans to expand its drone delivery service to nearly 500 U.S. cities and towns by the end of 2026, a sixfold increase. Amazon's Prime Air currently operates in seven states, including Texas, and holds FAA Part 135 certification. The company claims its drones use onboard cameras, sensors, and a Detect-and-Avoid system for safe navigation. While the package fell harmlessly into the water with no injuries or collisions, the video highlights a malfunction in the final delivery stage, contrasting with Amazon's safety assurances.
