TechApple announced a major revision to its App Store business terms for the European Union, effective October 1, aiming to resolve the European Commission's Digital Markets Act (DMA) case. The new terms replace a complex per-install fee structure with a flat 5% commission on digital transactions for apps distributed outside the App Store. However, higher fees remain for apps using alternative payment processing (up to 20%) or linking out for purchases (up to 15%). Apple also expanded eligibility for alternative marketplaces but will continue notarization for web-distributed apps and impose additional limits on alternative payments for kids' apps. The European Commission welcomed the changes, stating they follow close dialogue, and will monitor implementation. Critics had previously accused Apple of 'malicious compliance' with the DMA.
