PoliticsThe Chemnitz District Court has issued an arrest warrant against Maximilian Krah, a member of the German Bundestag for the far-right AfD party, following a legal dispute with ZDF satirist Jan Böhmermann. Krah had sued Böhmermann for reading a letter in his podcast claiming Krah ordered 200 bottles of champagne at Oktoberfest, but lost the case. Although Böhmermann collected about 5,000 euros through enforcement, 296.26 euros remained unpaid. Krah, a trained lawyer, failed to appear for a scheduled asset declaration appointment in mid-July. Böhmermann's lawyer stated that Germany is a constitutional state and no one can evade legal obligations. The court declined to comment as proceedings are non-public. This is not Krah's first legal trouble; in spring 2025, he faced investigation for bribery and money laundering, and a former employee was convicted of spying for China.
