White House aide Dan Scavino sent Cook a letter alleging she made false statements on mortgage agreements, citing the Supreme Court's opinion that allowed a new attempt with due process protections. Cook's attorney, Abbe Lowell, dismissed the allegations as baseless and vowed to challenge the move. The initial firing attempt last year was tied to Trump's pressure on the Fed to cut interest rates. The allegations were surfaced by Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte, a Trump ally. The Federal Reserve declined to comment.
