BAE Systems wins $181m contract to maintain Royal Navy torpedoes

BAE Systems has secured a £135 million ($181m) contract from the UK Ministry of Defence to maintain and repair the Royal Navy's torpedo arsenal. The three-year Torpedo Repair and Maintenance (TRAM) contract will run from July 2026 to June 2029, covering upkeep of Spearfish and Sting Ray torpedoes used by submarines, surface vessels, and maritime patrol aircraft. The contract will directly support 150 specialized technician and engineering roles, primarily in Portsmouth, and sustain an additional 165 supply chain jobs. The MoD described the contract as a 'bridge' to the future WHITEHEAD2 support program due in 2029. The investment is part of the UK government's wider Defence Investment Plan of £298 billion over four years, prioritizing skilled manufacturing and engineering.
