BAE Systems wins $181m contract to maintain Royal Navy torpedoes

BAE Systems has secured a £135 million ($181m) contract from the UK Ministry of Defence to maintain and repair the Royal Navy's torpedo arsenal. The three-year Torpedo Repair and Maintenance (TRAM) contract will run from July 2026 to June 2029, covering upkeep of Spearfish and Sting Ray torpedoes used by submarines, surface vessels, and maritime patrol aircraft. The contract will directly support 150 specialized technician and engineering roles, primarily in Portsmouth, and sustain an additional 165 supply chain jobs. Royal Navy officials stated the contract ensures operational readiness and supports the UK's Continuous At Sea Deterrent. The MoD described it as a bridge to the future WHITEHEAD2 support programme due in 2029, part of a wider £298bn Defence Investment Plan.
