PoliticsThe Government Accountability Office (GAO) published a report on August 5, 2026, revealing that at least 206 employees worked for the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) within the Executive Office of the President between January 2025 and January 2026. Of these, at least 128 had separated by January 31, 2026, and 27 were special government employees, including Elon Musk. However, GAO could not verify ethics training completion or financial disclosure for many employees because 10 agencies and the EOP did not respond to requests. Nine agencies provided incomplete documentation. The report also noted that while the DOGE Temporary Organization terminated on July 4, 2026, the broader U.S. DOGE Service office continues to exist. DOGE spearheaded civil service reductions that cut over 350,000 federal positions.
