FinanceIn February 2026, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down President Trump's tariffs, ruling that the government owes businesses $166 billion in refunds. Amazon announced it received $600 million in tariff refunds and plans to distribute a portion to a small selection of customers who paid specific import charges. Amazon CFO Brian Olsavsky explained that the tariffs had limited direct impact on Amazon due to forward-buying and because suppliers typically handle imports. The company will proactively contact affected customers and automatically issue refunds. Other major companies like Apple and Ford received larger refunds, while Walmart received $2.4 billion and plans to invest in low prices rather than direct customer refunds. Amazon's prices rose 5.7% from early 2025 to September 2025, higher than Walmart and Target's 1.7% increase.
