US CENTCOM, UAE to launch first bilateral military AI task force

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and the United Arab Emirates will establish Task Force Talon Synapse, the first bilateral military AI task force, set to launch in the coming weeks. The Abu Dhabi-based unit will consist of approximately 20 American and Emirati personnel with expertise in AI, data, and cybersecurity. Its focus areas include incorporating AI into intelligence support, protecting critical infrastructure, and monitoring the regional security environment. CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper called it a historic milestone, emphasizing rapid delivery of AI advancements to warfighters. The task force was discussed last year by Cooper and UAE National Security Advisor Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed al-Nahyan, who views AI adoption as a national responsibility. The UAE has pursued AI defense collaborations for nearly a decade, including partnerships with Anduril for autonomous drones.
