WhatsApp on Tuesday (July 28, 2026) announced new features coming to its platform, including web calling, that will allow users to run meetings similar to users of rival video call platforms.
Web Calling
The web calling feature, which was also announced by WhatsApp head Kunal Shah on social media, will allow users to make and receive both audio and video calls directly on WhatsApp Web, without needing to download the app. Both one-on-one and group calls will be supported.
Mr. Shah posted a screenshot that showed him using the Google Chrome web browser to have a video chat with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

WhatsApp is also set to introduce:
- Call transfer: Lets users move an active group call from one device to another without hanging up.
