Celtic break transfer record to sign Denmark striker Kasper Hogh for £11m

Denmark striker Kasper Hogh has described Celtic as a "really good match" after becoming the club's record signing.

The 25-year-old has joined from Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt for a reported fee of £11m, becoming the Scottish champions' second summer recruit following the arrival of Camilo Duran.

Hogh — who scored 54 goals in 103 appearances for Bodo/Glimt, including five in last season's Champions League — has signed a four-year deal with the option of a further year.

The Dane's arrival is expected to ease fan pressure on the Celtic board following the departure of Japan forward Daizen Maeda to Ipswich Town.

"I'm so happy," Hogh told Celtic TV. "When I came into the room and saw the shirt, I was really excited.

"The history of the club is so big. I spoke with some people and with my family about the club.

"The feeling they had, and the feeling I had in my stomach, was that this was a really good match."

On his playing style, Hogh added: "I like to be in the box and score goals, but I also want to help my team-mates defensively and work hard for the team.

"I've trained throughout the summer and I've already played league games in Norway, so I feel ready. I just want to get started and be thrown into the fire."

From early setbacks to Champions League goals

Hogh's career has developed gradually since he came through the youth ranks at local club Randers. After an injury-hit spell, he was sold to second-tier Hobro, which included a loan to Valur in Iceland.

Hogh finished as Bodo/Glimt's top scorer with 12 goals as they retained the Norwegian title. His seven goals in the Europa League made him the competition's joint top marksman as the club reached the semi-finals.

He was again the club's top scorer in 2025 with 17 goals, although Bodo/Glimt finished second, one point behind Viking.

In January 2026, Hogh scored twice in a 3-1 Champions League win over Manchester City, and netted again the following week in a 2-1 victory at Atletico Madrid.

Hogh received his first call-up to Denmark's senior squad in March and made his debut as a late substitute in a 4-0 win over North Macedonia. In his second appearance, he came off the bench to head Denmark's equaliser in their World Cup play-off final against the Czech Republic, though his side lost in a penalty shootout.

What will Hogh bring to Celtic?

Unrest among the Celtic support towards the club's hierarchy has been approaching — if not already reached — a toxic level, with Martin O'Neill's side yet to play a competitive match in the 2026-27 season.

Nevertheless, the club have been working on a record deal for an incoming player.

The exit of Maeda, last season's title hero, combined with confirmation that Kelechi Iheanacho and Marcelo Saracchi would not return to Parkhead, intensified fan frustration.

Hogh's arrival raises the question of whether the club are adopting a quality-over-quantity approach.

Celtic's wage bill and transfer fee outlay in recent years suggest money has been spent, but perhaps not spent wisely. It has felt difficult for fans and pundits to defend the fact the club had only one new signing less than a week before their Premiership title defence begins.

However, the combined reported cost of Duran and Hogh is approximately £15m, and both players arrive with Champions League pedigree. Duran impressed in pre-season after scoring five of his 15 goals for Qarabag last term in Uefa's premier club competition. Hogh netted the same number in the same tournament for Bodo/Glimt.
