Laura Dahlmeier's mother: Body will never be recovered from mountain

She remains forever in her beloved mountains. The body of the deceased biathlon Olympic champion Laura Dahlmeier (†31) could not be found after her dramatic climbing accident a year ago. Now, Dahlmeier's mother explains why her Laura stays in the mountain.

Susi Dahlmeier said: "I believe this is the most beautiful cemetery there could be for Laura. Merged with the heart of the mountains. That was her and that is her."

She made this statement at the end of February during the ceremony to name the "Laura-Dahlmeier-Park" in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the hometown of the two-time Olympic champion.

Andreas Dahlmeier: Laura's Body Unfindable at Accident Site

Laura's father, Andreas Dahlmeier, spoke publicly for the first time in October 2025 about his daughter's death, telling SPIEGEL at the time:

"We would have liked to bring Laura home. But it was not possible to retrieve her. It was too dangerous after the accident. When Thomas went back to Laila Peak, she was no longer findable."

At the request of the Dahlmeier parents, climbing star Thomas Huber (59) had undertaken a recovery attempt in September together with US alpinist Tad McCrea.

Now Huber tells the German Press Agency:

"Sometimes it feels like it was only yesterday, and she is still in our lives, so present. It's like an echo that reverberates, her voice and what she said. That should give everyone courage to live life."

Dahlmeier died on July 28, 2025, in a climbing accident on Laila Peak in the Pakistani Karakoram range. She was struck by falling rocks at an altitude of 5,700 meters during the descent and suffered fatal injuries. Recovery of her body was not possible.
