SV Elversberg, a newly promoted Bundesliga club, defeated Dutch Eredivisie side NEC Nijmegen 1-0 in an extended friendly match (two 60-minute halves) during their training camp in Barneveld, Netherlands. The match was the fourth of seven pre-season tests for Elversberg. Coach Vincent Wagner started three new signings: Cole Campbell (Borussia Dortmund), Lukasz Poreba (Hamburger SV), and Noah Darvich (VfB Stuttgart). The decisive goal came in the 90th minute when Filimon Gerezgiher, recently on loan at Dutch second-division club FC Emmen, won the ball in midfield and set up striker Luca Pfeiffer, who scored the winner. Nijmegen, who finished third in the Eredivisie last season, launched furious attacks afterward but failed to equalize. The result marks a notable achievement for the Saarland-based club against a top Dutch opponent.
