Hupu, July 26 – Former German national team goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller has highly praised the German Football Association's decision to appoint Jürgen Klopp as head coach. The Borussia Dortmund legend, who won two Bundesliga titles alongside Klopp, described the move on social media as "a turning point for the German Football Association."
In Weidenfeller's view, Klopp's introductory press conference marked the beginning of a "significant restructuring" process for the association.
Weidenfeller wrote:
"After three World Cup failures and two European Championship failures, it's time to start a new chapter of success! At the perfect moment, a coach who returns from managerial football to focusing on competitive performance fits our needs perfectly."
Klopp, who recently served as Red Bull's global head of football, voluntarily gave up his senior management role to return to coaching. Weidenfeller believes this dedication to competition itself is exactly what the German team needs most.
Regarding Klopp himself, Weidenfeller did not hold back his praise. He stated that Klopp "truly represents the pride of the nation" while "inspiringly embodies a passion for football, shaping the team with enthusiasm and ambition, and leading the entire country through open, humorous communication." In Weidenfeller's eyes, Klopp is not only a tactical leader but also the spiritual leader of German football.
Weidenfeller also noted that after Klopp's press conference in Frankfurt on Friday, every German football fan would "want to put on the German Football Association jersey again."
Finally, the 2014 World Cup winner added his usual touch of humor, concluding with a joke:
"If I can find my gloves, I'd be willing to give it another go."
