Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn endured a nightmare debut for San Jose Earthquakes as they lost 4-0 at home to Orlando City in their first match after Major League Soccer's World Cup break. Gunn, 30, had not played a club game since February and was coming off Scotland's World Cup exit. Despite conceding four goals, Gunn was not primarily at fault, making several saves to prevent a heavier loss. Orlando City scored through David Brekalo, Ivan Angulo, Antoine Griezmann (on his debut), and Braian Ojeda. San Jose remain tied on points atop the Western Conference but second on goal difference. They next host LA Galaxy.

Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn endured a nightmare debut for San Jose Earthquakes as they suffered a 4-0 home defeat to Orlando City in their first match following Major League Soccer's break for the World Cup.
The 30-year-old's appearance was his first game since Scotland failed to qualify for the knockout stages following a 3-0 loss to Brazil in their final group match. It was also his first club game since coming on as a substitute in Nottingham Forest's 1-1 Premier League draw with Crystal Palace in February.
Despite the scoreline, Gunn could take little blame for any of the goals and produced several saves that prevented a more painful loss for Bruce Arena's side.
Match Summary
- 7th minute: Visiting centre-half David Brekalo headed home Eduard Atuesta's free-kick, left unmarked in the box.
- 29th minute: Winger Ivan Angulo doubled Orlando City's lead with a powerful low drive into the far corner from just outside the penalty area.
- 48th minute: France legend Antoine Griezmann marked his debut following his move from Atletico Madrid by firing home from just inside the box after Gunn was left exposed by a loss of possession.
- 73rd minute: Paraguay midfielder Braian Ojeda completed the rout, his header squeezing between Gunn and the near post from another Atuesta set piece.
At the other end, Gunn's opposite number, Canada's Maxime Crepeau, produced several fine saves, including a couple that denied Timo Werner a scoring debut for San Jose after the Germany striker's move from RB Leipzig.
Standings and Next Match
Despite the defeat, San Jose remain tied on points at the top of the Western Conference but sit second on goal difference behind Vancouver Whitecaps, who lost 4-3 away to Cincinnati but have a game in hand.
San Jose are fourth in the overall MLS table, with Nashville leading ahead of Argentina forward Lionel Messi's Inter Miami.
Gunn's side next host LA Galaxy, who are ninth in the Eastern Conference, on Sunday.
