Ismaël Gharbi, a 22-year-old Tunisian international and former Paris Saint-Germain academy player, has been loaned to CD Leganés in the Spanish Second Division for the current season. The loan includes a purchase option. Gharbi, who is under contract with Portuguese club SC Braga, has had a varied career: after failing to establish himself at PSG (2016-2024), he was loaned to Lausanne, then transferred to Braga, where he scored four goals in 38 appearances. A subsequent loan to Bundesliga side Augsburg was less successful, with only seven appearances and no goals. Gharbi, born in Paris to a Tunisian father and Spanish mother, has represented France and Spain at youth levels before choosing Tunisia. He played for Tunisia at the 2025 World Cup, where they were eliminated in the group stage. Leganés finished 16th in the Segunda División last season.
Source report
Ismaël Gharbi is embarking on the next chapter of his professional career. The 22-year-old former Paris Saint-Germain academy product is set to join his fifth club, moving on loan to Spanish side CD Leganés.
Since leaving PSG on a free transfer in the summer of 2024, Gharbi has been with Portuguese club Braga. Now, the Tunisian international (20 caps, 2 goals) will gain experience in the Spanish Second Division, with Leganés holding a purchase option as part of the deal.
A Versatile Attacker
CD Leganés, who finished 16th in the last Liga Hypermotion season, announced the arrival of the right-footed player (1.73 m) on Thursday. Gharbi is capable of playing as an attacking midfielder or on the wings.
Despite his versatility and the high expectations placed upon him, Gharbi was unable to establish himself at PSG, his formative club from 2016 to 2024.
A Familiar Land
After making only 12 first-team appearances in Paris, Gharbi was loaned to Lausanne during the 2023–2024 season before being transferred to Braga. He scored four goals in 38 appearances in his first year in Portugal.
He then experienced another loan spell, this time at Augsburg, where the results were less conclusive. In the Bundesliga last season, the young Tunisian played just seven matches and failed to score a single goal.
Although this will be his first time playing in a Spanish league, Gharbi is no stranger to the country. Born in Paris to a Tunisian father and a Spanish mother, he represented France at U18 level and Spain at U18 and U19 levels before ultimately choosing to play for Tunisia's national team—the Eagles of Carthage—ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Gharbi also participated in the North American World Cup this summer with Tunisia, though the team was eliminated in the group stage after three defeats in Group F.
