A wanted member of the pro-Khalistan outfit 'Waris Punjab De' and a U.S. national linked to the organisation were arrested while attempting to enter India from Nepal, police said.
Joint Operation at Indo-Nepal Border
Bahraich Superintendent of Police (SP) Vishwajeet Srivastava stated on Thursday (July 23, 2026) that a joint operation was conducted by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the Uttar Pradesh Police at the Indo-Nepal International Border under the Rupaidiha police station area.
Accused Identified
The accused were identified as:
- Vikramjit Singh – wanted in connection with a 2023 case registered at the Ajnala police station in Punjab.
- Manveer Singh Dhillon – a U.S. national and native of Moga district in Punjab.
Details of the Arrest
According to SP Srivastava:
- Vikramjit Singh had been absconding for several days.
- Manveer Singh Dhillon is suspected to have entered India through Nepal without obtaining a visa to avoid scrutiny by law enforcement agencies.
- The duo was intercepted while entering Indian territory after crossing the Rupaidiha border post from Nepal.
During verification and questioning, their identities and alleged links to the organisation came to light.
Legal Action
"A case has been registered against both accused under relevant provisions at Rupaidiha police station and they have been arrested," the SP said.
Three Others Arrested for Facilitation
Three Indian nationals were also arrested on Thursday (July 23, 2026) for allegedly helping the two men:
- Suresh Kumar Pathak – resident of Rupaidiha town
- Dilip Upadhyay – resident of Rupaidiha town
- Rahul Kumar – vehicle driver
They were arrested for allegedly attempting to facilitate the illegal entry of the two men into India.
Ongoing Investigation
Officials from various security and intelligence agencies deployed at the border questioned the arrested persons. Punjab Police was also looking for both men in separate cases, the SP added.
