Josip Brekalo (28) has made a statement by extending his contract with Hertha BSC just six months after joining the club. The Croatian winger has signed a new deal running until 2028, extending his previous contract which was set to expire in 2027.
While several of his teammates have left Hertha this summer, Brekalo has chosen to remain in Berlin.
Commitment to the Club
Brekalo explained his decision:
"I felt very comfortable at Hertha right away and am in exactly the right place here. An exciting time lies ahead of us – and I am looking forward to being able to help shape it."
Regular Starter Status
The winger joined Hertha on a free transfer from Oviedo in February and quickly established himself as a regular starter. In the second half of the second division season, he made 11 appearances for the Berliners, scoring three goals and providing two assists. Brekalo also featured in the DFB-Pokal quarterfinal against Freiburg, which ended in a 5–6 penalty shootout defeat.
Brekalo is the second Hertha professional to extend his contract this summer, following Julian Eitschberger, who signed a new deal until 2029.
