St. Louis City SC to sign Danish midfielder Carlo Holse for $6M as designated player

St. Louis City SC has reached an agreement to sign Danish attacking midfielder Carlo Holse from Turkish Süper Lig side Samsunspor for a fee of approximately $6 million, according to sources briefed on the deal. Holse, 27, will occupy a designated player slot upon completion of the transfer. He recorded eight goals and four assists in the Turkish league last season and contributed two goals and five assists in 10 UEFA Conference League appearances, helping Samsunspor reach the round of 16. Holse previously played for Rosenborg in Norway and began his career at FC Copenhagen. He has one cap for Denmark's national team. The signing is part of a broader roster rebuild under new head coach Yoann Damet, who favors a possession-based 3-4-2-1 formation. Holse is expected to play alongside Marcel Hartel as a dual No. 10, providing both creativity and goal-scoring to a St. Louis attack that has managed only 19 goals this season, the fifth-lowest in MLS. The club currently sits 10th in the Western Conference, one point out of a playoff spot with 19 games remaining.
