FC Barcelona has officially signed German striker Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of €22 million plus €7 million in variables. The 24-year-old forward, who had one year left on his contract and refused to renew, has signed a five-year deal until 2031. Borussia Dortmund retains a 20% sell-on clause. Adeyemi, who previously played under Barcelona coach Hansi Flick for the German national team, is expected to provide depth on the wings and occasional rest for Lamine Yamal. The signing was driven by Flick and sporting director Deco's desire to strengthen the offensive line with a fast, explosive player capable of pressing. Adeyemi's progression had stalled due to minor injuries, and he missed Germany's World Cup squad. Barcelona hopes Flick can revive his best form.

It is now official: Karim Adeyemi will be a new Barcelona player for the next five seasons. The 24-year-old forward, who had refused to renew his contract and had one year remaining with Borussia Dortmund, moves to the Catalan club for €22 million plus €7 million in variables. Borussia Dortmund also retains 20% of the profit from any future transfer of the player.
Don't blink. Welcome, Adeyemi 💙❤️ — FC Barcelona (@FCBarcelona_es) July 23, 2026
Barcelona has closed the signing of the winger expressly, as Adeyemi was seeking a forced exit from Borussia Dortmund ahead of the end of his contract in 2027. As previously seen with Anthony Gordon, the signing reflects the desire of Hansi Flick and Deco to strengthen the offensive line with players capable of operating on both wings and, at specific moments, as a striker.
With this move, Hansi Flick adds a compatriot to the squad—one he previously coached and debuted for the German national team. The left-footed attacker possesses a profile that aligns well with Flick's football philosophy: speed, explosiveness, and a strong work rate in pressing situations. A priori, Adeyemi will provide occasional rest for Lamine Yamal and support the team in key moments, a role previously held by Roony Bardghji, who will leave the club barring a surprise.
Flick Already Preparing for Preseason
Barça Returns to the 1:1 Rule
Karim Adeyemi, who showed great promise upon breaking into the elite with Red Bull Salzburg, has seen his progression stall due to minor injuries that prevented him from achieving consistent playing time. One consequence of this inconsistency was his exclusion from Germany's squad for the World Cup.
Now, the German takes a leap into the absolute elite of European football by signing for Barcelona, which has placed significant trust in him and signed him until 2031. The club hopes that Flick will recover the best version of a player who still has many years of football ahead of him.
