Motorway Group Founder Michael Lim Charged with Evading S$15,000 in Excise Duty and GST

Michael Lim (Lim Ah Poh), 61-year-old founder and owner of Singapore's Motorway group of companies, has been charged with fraudulently evading excise duty and GST totaling approximately S$15,000. The charges relate to a single Toyota Alphard multi-purpose vehicle imported on November 24, 2023. Lim allegedly conspired with two individuals, Hiroshi Matsumoto and Chua Lai Fang, to under-declare the vehicle's import value. The excise duty paid was S$10,743.60 against the actual S$20,591.90 (S$9,848.30 avoided), and GST paid was S$5,156.93 against the correct S$9,884.11 (S$4,727.18 avoided). He faces combined penalties of up to S$300,000. A court hearing was held on July 16, 2026, with further mention on August 27. Lim is out on S$30,000 bail. Motorway, founded in 1992, is an authorized distributor for SsangYong and a dealer for BYD and Koenigsegg.
