1. FC Magdeburg's top scorer Mateusz Zukowski has signed a contract extension until 2029, rejecting interest from several Bundesliga clubs including Cologne. The 24-year-old Polish forward, who joined from Slask Wrocław in September 2025, has scored 17 goals and provided three assists in 22 competitive matches. Sporting director Peer Jaekel praised Zukowski's development into a leader and role model. Zukowski made his debut for the Polish national team in late May, substituting for Robert Lewandowski. He cited the club's vision, the atmosphere at Avnet Arena, and fan support as reasons for his decision to stay.

Second-division club 1. FC Magdeburg has made a statement shortly before the start of the season: Top goal-scorer Mateusz Zukowski (24) has prematurely extended his contract with the blue-whites until 2029.
The Pole only moved to the Elbe in September 2025 from then-second-division club Slask Wrocław – and made an immediate impact. In 22 competitive matches so far, the offensive player has scored a strong 17 goals and provided three assists. He has thus become one of the most important key performers for FCM. No wonder Zukowski has also caught the eye of several Bundesliga clubs (including Cologne). But the Pole remains loyal to FCM!
FCM Sporting Director Praises Zukowski's Development
Sports director Peer Jaekel praised the attacker's development: "Mateusz Zukowski is far more to us than just an outstanding striker." He was particularly impressed by how the Pole fought his way back after his injury. Jaekel added: "He has now matured into a leader at FCM and is a role model for our prospective players. Nevertheless, he is not yet at the end of his development."
The club boss also emphasized that the talks about the future were characterized by great trust. "It was noticeable at all times how much the club, the city, and our fans have come to mean to him. We are all the more pleased that he has consciously decided to continue on the path together with 1. FC Magdeburg."

Via FCM into the Polish National Team
Zukowski has also recently attracted attention internationally. With his performances in the FCM jersey, he played his way into the Polish national team and made his debut against Ukraine at the end of May. He was substituted on for superstar striker Robert Lewandowski.
The goal-getter himself justified his decision with the club's perspective and his feeling of well-being in Magdeburg. "In the end, the talks showed me that we have the same ideas and can achieve a lot together," said Zukowski.
Zukowski Looks Forward to Future in Magdeburg
He was particularly impressed by the atmosphere in the Avnet Arena: "My wife and I quickly felt at home in Magdeburg. Added to that is the special atmosphere in the stadium, the support, and the love the fans have shown me since my first day. This overall package is something very special."
That is why he is "very happy and proud to continue going on goal hunts in blue and white."
