Nagelsmann returns from Mallorca on tourist flight, met by VIP shuttle after World Cup exit

Munich – Former national coach Julian Nagelsmann (38) returned from vacation with his wife Lena (34) on Tuesday afternoon. Following the German team's disastrous World Cup exit in the round of 32 against Paraguay and his subsequent resignation as national coach, Nagelsmann traveled with Lena to the popular Balearic island for a few days of sun. As BILD reported, the couple was seen strolling along the promenade of Puerto Portals harbor on Saturday evening.

Nagelsmann and Lena on a Tourist Flight to Munich

On Tuesday afternoon, the couple flew back home on a commercial flight. Nagelsmann and Lena occupied business-class seats on the well-filled Condor scheduled flight "DE1513" from Palma de Mallorca to Munich. The former DFB coach wore shorts, a white t-shirt, a cap, and casual black sunglasses. After a delay of approximately 20 minutes, the red-and-white Nagelsmann plane landed at Munich Airport at 5:29 PM.

Nagelsmann Picked Up by VIP Shuttle

Notably, Nagelsmann and his wife left the plane before all other passengers. A few minutes later, well-tanned, they were the first to disembark via an external staircase attached to the gangway. They were then picked up by a chauffeur service in a black limousine and driven directly from the tarmac.

Background: World Cup Exit and Resignation

The German national team was eliminated from the tournament after an embarrassing 3-4 penalty shootout loss against Paraguay, after which Nagelsmann resigned from his position. Talks are currently underway with Jürgen Klopp (59), who is expected to become his successor.

After the final whistle of the Paraguay match, the national coach initially refused to resign. Nagelsmann stated: "I am definitely not someone who runs away." However, a turnaround occurred following gentle pressure.

In a statement, DFB President Bernd Neuendorf (65) said: "The German Football Association expressly thanks Julian Nagelsmann for the work he has done since September 2023. He is characterized by a high level of commitment and extraordinary ambition. Julian Nagelsmann is also an extremely responsible and honest person whom we all appreciate."
