Newcastle United are in advanced negotiations to sign Republic of Ireland forward Leanne Kiernan from Liverpool, according to BBC Sport. The 27-year-old, who spent the second half of the 2025-26 season on loan at Nottingham Forest, still has at least a year remaining on her Liverpool contract, meaning Newcastle would likely pay a transfer fee. Kiernan has scored 23 goals in 76 appearances for Liverpool over five years, including a standout 2021-22 season where she was the club's top scorer with 14 goals as they won the WSL 2 title. She has earned 38 caps for the Republic of Ireland since her debut in 2017. However, Kiernan found playing time limited under Liverpool manager Gareth Taylor, starting only once in the WSL before her loan move. Liverpool have added attacking depth with the signing of Germany forward Vivien Endemann from Wolfsburg. Newcastle, currently in the second-tier WSL 2, have been active in the transfer window with six additions as they aim to challenge for promotion.

Newcastle United are in advanced talks to sign Republic of Ireland forward Leanne Kiernan from Liverpool.
The 27-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Nottingham Forest but still has at least a year remaining on her Liverpool contract.
It means second-tier Newcastle would be expected to pay a fee to bring in Kiernan, who has been at Liverpool for five years and signed an extension in 2025.
Career Overview
- Liverpool record: 23 goals in 76 appearances
- Key achievement: Played a key role in Liverpool's WSL 2 title win in 2022, finishing as the club's top-scorer with 14 goals
- Previous clubs: Over 40 appearances for West Ham in the WSL after beginning her career at Shelbourne
- International career: 38 appearances for the Republic of Ireland since her debut in 2017
Current Situation
Kiernan has found game time hard to come by under Liverpool boss Gareth Taylor, starting just once in the WSL before joining Forest in January.
Liverpool have also added to their attacking ranks this summer with the arrival of Germany forward Vivien Endemann from Wolfsburg.
Kiernan would bring attacking depth to Newcastle, who have had a busy transfer window with six additions as they prepare to challenge for the WSL 2 title.
