Babcock Canada secures six-year extension to support Victoria-class submarine fleet

Babcock Canada has secured a six-year extension to its Victoria In-Service Support Contract (VISSC) with the Royal Canadian Navy, continuing its role as the principal industry partner for maintenance, engineering, and sustainment of the Victoria-class submarine fleet. The extension allows for further renewals until the fleet's eventual retirement, as Canada moves toward a new submarine fleet under the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP). Babcock has supported the fleet for over 18 years, contributing over C$3.2 billion in economic impact and supporting more than 1,500 Canadian jobs annually. The company partners with local suppliers, educational institutions, and Indigenous organizations. Financial terms were not disclosed. The extension comes as Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems was named preferred supplier for up to 12 new submarines based on the 212CD design, expected in the 2030s. Babcock aims to ensure a smooth transition to future submarine sustainment.
