Lockheed Martin unveils Morfius X-Rotor counter-drone system, can neutralize over 50 drones per flight

At the 2026 Farnborough Airshow in London, Lockheed Martin introduced the Morfius X-Rotor, a ground-launched, recoverable counter-drone system that uses high-power microwave (HPM) technology to neutralize over 50 enemy drones in a single flight. Designed for low cost per kill and reusability, the system can integrate with any command and control system and does not require unique sensors or fire control radars. Lockheed Martin is accelerating prototype production for frontline troops. The system has been flight-tested in Arizona, California, and Oklahoma, with additional tests planned. The announcement comes amid U.S. efforts to reduce reliance on expensive interceptors, as seen in conflicts involving Iranian missiles and Shahed drones. The company also introduced a cheaper Patriot interceptor as part of this cost-reduction push.
