Grant-Leon Ranos (22) has ended his three-year stint at Borussia Mönchengladbach, moving to Spanish second-division side CD Tenerife. The Armenian international arrived from Bayern Munich's second team in 2023 with high expectations but failed to establish himself, making only 19 Bundesliga appearances without a single start and scoring just one goal. His loan spells at 1. FC Kaiserslautern and Eintracht Braunschweig were also goalless. Ranos had some success with Gladbach's U23 team in the Regionalliga, scoring eight goals and providing ten assists in 17 games. Borussia's sports director Rouven Schröder stated the club wanted a consistent decision after Ranos couldn't break into the professional squad, wishing him well for a fresh start in Spain. The transfer occurs one year before his contract was set to expire.
Source report
The end of a misunderstanding. In the summer of 2023, Grant-Leon Ranos (22) moved from FC Bayern Munich's second team to Borussia Mönchengladbach with high expectations. He had already played for the Armenian national team at age 19 and has since made 26 international appearances, scoring five goals. However, the Gladbach chapter is now over for Ranos one year before the end of his contract. The striker is moving to the Canary Islands to join Spanish second-division promoted side CD Tenerife.
Club Statement
Borussia's sports boss Rouven Schröder (50) commented on the departure:
"Grant came to us as a young player and got the chance to show himself and develop here. After three years, he ultimately couldn't establish himself with the professionals despite his potential, so we wanted to make a consistent decision. A fresh start in a new country and a new league will certainly do him good. We wish him all the best for his new beginning."
Ranos had been released from training since last Sunday's start in Gladbach to look for a club.
Sobering Record at Borussia
In his three contract years, Ranos made only 19 Bundesliga appearances for the foal jersey, never starting a single game. The Armenian national striker managed just one goal — in a disastrous 4-6 loss at Borussia-Park against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Unsuccessful Loan Spells
Ranos enjoyed some success with Borussia's U23 in the Regionalliga, scoring eight goals and providing ten assists in 17 games. However, his loan spells in the 2. Bundesliga did not go as hoped:
- 1. FC Kaiserslautern (second half of 2024/25 season): Failed to score.
- Eintracht Braunschweig (second half of the past season): Also came away empty-handed.
