A leather jacket worn by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang sold for $960,000 at a Sotheby's auction on Friday, far exceeding the pre-sale estimate of $40,000 to $60,000. The jacket, a black Tom Ford garment that Huang wore at a 2023 Foxconn event in Taipei, is part of his signature look he has maintained for nearly 20 years. Sotheby's reported 65 bids from 45 different collectors, with the head of modern collectibles calling the response 'beyond our highest expectations.' The proceeds will support the Edge Institute, a nonprofit focused on innovation, through fellowships, grants, and residencies. The high price signals growing collector interest in artifacts from the artificial intelligence boom. Huang has previously joked about his 'founder's uniform,' and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg received one of Huang's jackets in a 2024 exchange, noting its value increased from being used.
