Brazilian midfielder Ederson has signed a contract extension with Serie A club Atalanta after his proposed £35m transfer to Manchester United collapsed. The deal, agreed on 2 June, fell through after a medical examination flagged an area of concern. Ederson's medical was delayed when he received a late call-up to Brazil's World Cup squad following an injury to Wesley. He eventually underwent full tests in England after Brazil's World Cup exit, with specialists involved. The results led Manchester United to back out of the transfer. Although sources indicated the deal could be resurrected later on different terms, Ederson has now extended his contract with Atalanta, though the length was not disclosed. Manchester United have since signed midfielders Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, plus goalkeeper Karl Darlow.

Brazil midfielder Ederson has signed a contract extension at Atalanta after the collapse of his proposed move to Manchester United.
The Old Trafford club had agreed a £35m fee for the 27-year-old on 2 June.
A plan for him to have a medical at the start of July had to be scrapped when Ederson received a late call-up for his country's World Cup squad following an injury to Wesley.
He eventually underwent a full medical after initial tests in the United States flagged an area of concern.
Ederson flew to England for the required tests, which took place in the wake of Brazil's World Cup last-16 defeat by Norway.
Specialists were involved, and the outcome led to United backing out of the transfer.
While sources had told BBC Sport the deal could be resurrected later in the summer, albeit at different terms, the player has now extended his contract with Atalanta.
The Serie A side did not announce the length of his new deal.
Michael Carrick's men have recently signed midfielders Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos from Aston Villa and Chelsea respectively, as well as goalkeeper Karl Darlow from Leeds United.
