SportsFC Schalke 04 has officially signed German international defender Robin Gosens (32) on a one-year loan from Fiorentina, with a purchase obligation of approximately €1.5 million contingent on Schalke avoiding relegation and Gosens meeting appearance thresholds. Gosens, a self-proclaimed Schalke fan who nearly joined the club in 2019, will earn just over €100,000 per month (€1.3 million annually), placing him in the club's top salary tier alongside Loris Karius and Kenan Karaman. Fiorentina will supplement his salary, as Gosens reportedly forgoes higher earnings in Italy (€1.8 million net, ~€3.8 million gross in Germany). The left-back, who will wear number 8, arrived in Gelsenkirchen with his family on a private jet from Florence, passed medical examinations, and signed his contract on Friday. Schalke's Director of Professional Football Youri Mulder praised Gosens as a 'real leader' and 'identifying figure' for the club. Gosens will join his new teammates at training camp in Austria.
