Grant-Leon Ranos, a 22-year-old Armenian international striker, is leaving Borussia Mönchengladbach after three unsuccessful years to join Spanish second-division side CD Tenerife. Ranos moved from Bayern Munich's second team to Gladbach in 2023 with high expectations, having already earned 26 caps and scored five goals for Armenia. However, he failed to establish himself in the Bundesliga, making only 19 appearances without a single start and scoring just one goal. His loan spells at 1. FC Kaiserslautern and Eintracht Braunschweig in the 2. Bundesliga also yielded no goals. Gladbach's sports director Rouven Schröder stated the club made a consistent decision to let him go, wishing him well for a fresh start. Ranos had been released from training to find a new club. His only success came with Gladbach's U23 team in the Regionalliga, where he scored eight goals and provided ten assists in 17 games.
Source report
The end of a misunderstanding. In the summer of 2023, Grant-Leon Ranos (22) moved from FC Bayern Munich's second team to Borussia Mönchengladbach carrying high expectations. He had already played for the Armenian national team at age 19 and has since made 26 international appearances, scoring five goals.
However, the Gladbach chapter is now over for Ranos, one year before the end of his contract. The striker is moving to the Canary Islands to join Spanish second-division promoted side CD Tenerife.
Club Statement
Borussia's sports boss Rouven Schröder (50) commented on the departure:
"Grant came to us as a young player and got the chance to show himself and develop here. After three years, he ultimately couldn't establish himself with the pros despite his potential, so we wanted to make a consistent decision. A fresh start in a new country and a new league will certainly do him good. We wish him all the best for his new beginning."
Ranos had been released from training since last Sunday in Gladbach to search for a new club.
Sobering Record at Borussia
In his three contract years at Borussia, Ranos made only 19 Bundesliga appearances in the foal jersey, never starting a single game. The Armenian national striker scored just one goal — in a disastrous 4-6 loss at Borussia-Park against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Unsuccessful Loan Spells
Ranos enjoyed some success with Borussia's U23 in the Regionalliga, scoring eight goals and providing ten assists in 17 games. However, his loan spells in the 2. Bundesliga did not go as hoped:
- 1. FC Kaiserslautern (second half of 2024/25 season): Failed to score a single goal.
- Eintracht Braunschweig (second half of the past season): Also came away empty-handed.
