Famalicão renews Brazilian center-back Matheus Mattara until 2031

Brazilian center-back Matheus Mattara has signed a contract renewal with Famalicão, keeping him at the club until 2031, the club announced this Thursday. The defender spent last season with the under-23 team.

Background and Development

Mattara joined the Minho club in 2024/25, arriving from the youth ranks of Brazilian clubs São Paulo and Juventus-SP. He initially joined the under-19 team, for which he played in the national championship of that category.

In the following season, he was promoted to the under-23s and established himself as one of the revelations of Famalicão's youth setup in the Liga Revelação. He was frequently called up to train with the first team and was included in several matchday squads during the final stretch of the season.

Pre-Season and Player Reaction

The defender is currently completing pre-season under the guidance of head coach Carlos Carvalhal. Mattara stated that the renewal represents recognition of the progress he has shown since arriving in Portuguese football.

"It is very gratifying to have been offered a contract renewal. It is a sign that I am on the right path, but always aware that there is still a long way to go," he said in statements released by the club.

Future Ambitions

Mattara thanked Famalicão for their trust and revealed that making his debut for the first team is his main goal. He also highlighted the advice he has received from fellow center-backs Léo Realpe and Ibrahima Ba.

"I feel more mature and fully adapted to European football. After the under-23s, my idea is to establish myself in the first team and build my name in the history of Futebol Clube de Famalicão," he concluded.
