NEW YORK – Applications for US unemployment benefits were little changed last week, reflecting persistently low levels of layoffs across the economy.
Initial jobless claims fell by 2,000 to a seasonally adjusted 215,000 for the week ended July 4, according to data released Thursday.
Continuing claims, which serve as a proxy for the number of people receiving unemployment benefits, edged up to 1.81 million in the previous week.
