Valencia Oceanarium Names Grey Shark 'Ferran' in Honor of Ferran Torres' Marine Conservation Work
The Valencia Oceanarium has named a male grey shark 'Ferran' after Spanish footballer Ferran Torres, recognizing his contributions to marine conservation and public awareness of shark protection. Torres, a Barcelona and Spain forward who scored the winning goal in the World Cup final against Argentina, is nicknamed 'Shark'. The oceanarium selected a two-meter-long male grey shark, an endangered species, to highlight the importance of these animals to the ecosystem. Torres served as an ambassador for the Oceanarium Foundation in 2024 and 2025, and his summer camp brought about 100 participants to the oceanarium for educational activities on marine biodiversity and reducing human impact on the ocean. Torres has expressed pride in his 'Shark' nickname on social media.
