Ukraine Sues IOC Over Lifting of Russian Olympic Committee Suspension
Ukraine has filed a lawsuit against the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over the IOC's decision to provisionally lift the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). Ukraine's Sports Minister Matwij Bidny announced the legal action, arguing the IOC's decision was premature because Russia has not renounced its claims to Ukrainian territory, including the annexed regions of Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia. The IOC had suspended the ROC for violating the Olympic Charter by incorporating these territories, but later lifted the suspension after Russia changed its committee structure. Separately, Russia is also suing World Athletics at CAS for maintaining its ban on Russian and Belarusian athletes, despite the IOC's more lenient stance.
