Two Romanian men jailed for Iran-linked stabbing of UK journalist
Two Romanian men, Nandito Badea (21) and George Stana (25), were jailed for stabbing a journalist in south London in an attack assessed by Counter Terrorism Policing as state-sponsored by Iran. The attack occurred on 29 March 2024 in Wimbledon, targeting a presenter for Iran International, a TV station designated a terrorist organization by Iran. Badea received 8 years, Stana 12 years, with Stana's sentence aggravated under the National Security Act due to his knowledge of the Iranian connection. The men fled to Geneva after the attack but were extradited from Romania in December 2024. A third suspect, David Andrei, remains in Romania facing domestic proceedings. Police highlighted the increasing use of proxies by hostile states in the UK.
