Two Romanian men jailed for Iran-linked stabbing of UK journalist
Two Romanian men, Nandito Badea (21) and George Stana (25), were jailed at the Old Bailey on 3 July 2026 for stabbing a journalist in south London in March 2024. Counter Terrorism Policing assessed the attack as state-sponsored, carried out on behalf of the Iranian regime. Stana received 12 years, with the judge finding he knew of the Iranian connection; Badea got 8 years, as the court concluded he was unaware of the motivation. The victim, a presenter for Iran International, was stabbed multiple times in the leg outside his home in Wimbledon. The attackers fled to Romania but were extradited after a joint UK-Romanian investigation. A third suspect, David Andrei, remains in Romania facing domestic proceedings. Police highlighted the increasing use of proxies by hostile states in the UK.
