Two Little Rock Southwest Athletes Sign College Letters of Intent

Little Rock Southwest High School celebrated a significant milestone as two student-athletes, Jordan Bowden and Derrick Vasser, signed their national letters of intent to pursue collegiate sports careers. Jordan Bowden made history by becoming the first girls’ basketball player in the school’s history to earn a college scholarship. She committed to playing basketball at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, citing the institution's strong academic reputation which aligns with her goal of becoming a pediatric nurse practitioner. Bowden expressed gratitude to her family and faith for their support. Meanwhile, football player Derrick Vasser signed with Independence Community College in Kansas. Vasser chose the program, famously featured in the Netflix series 'Last Chance U,' because he identifies with its reputation for helping athletes overcome adversity. He described his decision as a move to improve his circumstances and prove himself. The signing ceremony marked a proud day for the Gryphons community, highlighting the dual focus on athletic achievement and personal development for both students as they transition to the next phase of their educational and sporting journeys.
