Thai Man Detained in Cambodia After Crossing Border Forest

Yot Sainoi, a 58-year-old Thai man from Surin province, has been detained in a Cambodian prison after crossing the border into Huay Samroeng Forest. He disappeared on April 25 while searching for natural resources to support his livelihood. His wife filed a missing person report with the Kab Choeng Police Station, alleging initial inaction by authorities, which prompted her to seek media attention. Following public coverage, officials located his motorcycle near the forest boundary. The Suranaree Task Force confirmed that Yot was arrested by Cambodian military personnel for illegal border crossing and transferred to a prison in Oddar Meanchey province. Cambodian authorities released a photo confirming his safety. While locals argue that residents frequently enter these forests without intent to violate borders, some accuse Cambodian troops of operating in disputed areas. Thai military and diplomatic officials are currently coordinating with Cambodian counterparts and the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Siem Reap to ensure Yot receives proper legal treatment and protection. Authorities have subsequently warned border residents to avoid high-risk forest zones and notify officials before entering such areas to prevent similar incidents.
