Thai Man Detained in Cambodia After Border Disappearance

Thailand’s 2nd Army Region confirmed that Yot Sainoi, a 58-year-old man from Surin province, is currently detained in Cambodia after disappearing near the Thai-Cambodian border last month. Sainoi was reported missing on April 25 after entering a forest area in Kap Choeng district to collect forest products. Following the discovery of his motorcycle near the forest edge, Thai authorities launched a joint search operation. Coordination with Cambodian officials revealed that Sainoi had crossed into Cambodia and was detained by local authorities. He faces charges of illegal entry and trespassing into a military zone and is being held at Oddar Meanchey provincial prison for legal proceedings. The Thai army is collaborating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Thai Consulate-General in Siem Reap to provide consular assistance, ensuring Sainoi receives humanitarian care and legal support. Officials stated he remains safe in custody. In response to the incident, the army urged residents in border areas to exercise caution when entering forests or conducting activities near the frontier. They advised informing local officials in advance to mitigate risks of getting lost or encountering legal issues in neighboring countries.
