UK takes command of post-war multinational force for Ukraine
The United Kingdom assumed command of the Multinational Force Ukraine (MNF-U) on Friday, taking over from France in a planned rotation. Lieutenant General Tom Bateman formally assumed command during a ceremony in Paris. The MNF-U is part of the coalition of the willing preparing to support Ukraine after hostilities with Russia end. Its responsibilities include securing Ukrainian airspace and maritime routes, rebuilding Ukraine's armed forces through training and equipment, and establishing a headquarters in Kyiv. Coalition partners will conduct military exercises in Poland this autumn to test the force's readiness. UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting reaffirmed Britain's steadfast commitment to Ukraine, praising Bateman's distinguished military career spanning over 30 years.
