Supermicro stock jumps on gross margin raise amid record $60 billion backlog
Supermicro (SMCI) stock surged 15% in premarket trading after the AI server maker announced it expects gross margins to nearly double to 15-17%, up from prior guidance of 8.2-8.4%, citing favorable customer and product mix. The company reported a record order backlog exceeding $60 billion in new orders during Q4 of fiscal 2026. Supermicro, which builds servers using chips from Nvidia, Intel, and AMD, also revealed it is co-building a Gigawatt AI datacenter for SpaceX and xAI. Despite the AI boom, the stock has been volatile, down nearly 13% year-to-date after a June equity raise to fulfill $39 billion in AI server orders.
